"Formula" for determining Swap Space

I am trying to do some capacity planning for a development environment and I 
was wondering:

Does anyone have a good "formula" or rule of thumb to determine how much 
swap space would be required to allow users to use SAMBA?

(e.g.  For "A" users moving "B" amounts of data, the amount of Swap Space 
needed = Ax + B)
