password change problem

I don't believe the problem involves any of the NT domain code that was
released with 2.0 since I've been having the problem in 1.9.18p10. I
haven't looked at the domain functionality yet (though I am anxious to) so
it's possible some of the domain stuff is using the same offending
functions down inside.
