This may be because of NTFS not using a write-through algorithm like FAT.
Write-through is where changes to the file-system are written immediately.
NTFS uses a method called transaction processing, that allows for greater
recoverabilty - changes to the file system are not immediate - AFAIK. It
would be interesting to see if this "bug" happens on a FAT volume, too.
