Disappearing Shares

I am running Samba 2.0.7 on a network with a bunch of W2K workstations. I
had a number of W2K shares mounted on the Linux box and everything worked
okay. I did some work on a couple of the W2K boxes and they were down for a
few hours. Now the shares I had mounted on the Linux box have
disappeared--when I try to access them in the directory where they were, I
get an error message. Also, I can't delete the directories where the shares
were mounted BUT I can create new directories and re-mount the same share in
a new directory.
Any idea how I can delete the directories where the shares were mounted?
