samba with win98 cannot connect but NT works

I have 3 machines. 1 with linux slackware 7.1 
running samba configured with ecription passwords,
2nd box is NT (it connects just fine to the linux machine)
3rd box is win98. it CANNOT connect to the linux machine.

I have tried everything I  can think of with the 
EnablePlainTextPasswords setting and cannot get
win98 to connect to linux?

Any thoughts on what is happening here?
