Okay, so heres the pattern. I can ONLY change passwords from the NT system if the password being generated was done so by hand using "smbpasswd". The NT machine DOES indeed change the password entry in the smbpasswd file, but it does not get used by subsequent changes. The pattern holds for 8 and 6 character long passwords... -Todd
