Samba won't talk with PDC - strange, strange!

Hi,

we are running a WinNT/Win95 network here. We need a stable file-server, so
we setup a Linux box with Samba 2.0.4b.
The NT Server (NT 4, SP 4, german) is serving as PDC and does all the
password stuff. I successfully joined Samba to the domain and everything is
working fine for some houres up to days. But then something strange happens:
when I click on my Samba in the network neighbordhood, it asks for a
Username and a Password. It doesn't matter, what User and Password I use, it
won't let me in.

Checking the log, it says:

[1999/08/09 15:26:59, 1] smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1243)
  domain_client_validate: Can't resolve address for UWTSRV1NT
[1999/08/09 15:26:59, 0] smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1318)
domain_client_validate: Domain password server not available.
[1999/08/09 15:26:59, 0] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(771)
NT Password did not match ! Defaulting to Lanman

  domain_client_validate: Can't resolve address for UWTSRV1NT
[1999/08/09 15:27:07, 0] smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1318)
domain_client_validate: Domain password server not available.
[1999/08/09 15:27:07, 0] smbd/reply.c:reply_sesssetup_and_X(771)
NT Password did not match ! Defaulting to Lanman
[1999/08/09 15:27:16, 1] smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1243)
  domain_client_validate: Can't resolve address for UWTSRV1NT
[1999/08/09 15:27:16, 0] smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1318)
domain_client_validate: Domain password server not available.

Where UWTSRV1NT is the NT Server (PDC). The NT is running WINS-Server and I
set "WINS SERVER = ip_of_server" in smb.conf.
In my opinion this is a communication problem between Samba and the NT
Server. Strangely all my workstations can access the NT Server, so WINS must
be running.
The problem can be solved by rebooting the NT Server or joining Samba again
to the domain using smbpasswd -j domain.

Any Ideas? What is going wrong here - is it me, is it Samba, is it NT
Server? Help needed urgently!

Thanks

Axel Schaefer
