samba 2.04b and NT domain problems

I must be missing something, but I just can't figure out what it is...
I installed samba 2.04b on a BSDI 4.0.1 box, and have 1.9.18p10 on a 3.1
box.
1.9.18p10 works fine, but I was trying to get version 2 up and running so I
can
migrate over.
I can't join the NT domain using the smbpasswd -j option:
unb:/usr/local/samba/var# smbpasswd -j hsh -r HSHNTA -D 4
resolve_name: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name HSHNTA<0x20>

or domain HSH.
Unable to join domain HSH.
I have deleted and added hshunb using server manager on the primary NT box,
and done everything according to the readme, but I keep getting this error.
What am I doing wrong? (Other than using NT...)
Config file:

Any clues?
Thanks
