Update Encrypted?

I've been using the "standard" way of Samba PDC for a while now, but
before we move this into the labs, I wanted to see if using the "update
encrypted" option would work for us so we don't have to ask the students

to change their passwords.  From a working PDC setup, what I did was run

the registry file from the samba/doc directory, and changed the line
Encrypted Passwords to read "no."  When I do that, I can no longer join
the domain.

Is there something I'm missing?
