Not so, just done it today..... Remember to take the "plain text"
password patch out of the registry, and I think must be SP3 or better.

No, I don't thing so according to what i read and did today smbpasswd
reads the account name. In fact if you run it with out a entry in
/etc/passwd you get an error message.
Sorry to be a little negative, but I only finished this a few hours ago
