xattrs problems on Mac OSX with resource forks

This turned out to be a general problem with the requesting of truncated
xattr values for new files.  I just checked-in a fix for this to the
xattrs patch.  I also added a test for this to the testsuite file.

I fixed this a little bit ago.

So, things are looking better now.  Let me know if you find any more
problems.
