thanks for the explanation.

i've noticed no mention of the new rsync work (xattr/acl) on appple's
boards ... probably not surprising as the current release is rsync
v2.6.3 + *their* patches, and they're notoriously tight-lipped about
unreleased products.

anyway, i've got a mostly-working solution for now.  and, i'll keep
watching here as well for evolution of the resync team's next-gen
stuff.
