Copying Oracle data files

I have done something similar with oracle in the past.  I'm not
a DBA, i had the DBA show me the equivalent of mysqldump under oracle.

It worked quite well.  the dump file was quite large (tens of megabytes)
but i was able to sync a day's worth of changes in a couple minutes over
a 33.6 modem connection.
