Looks very promising.  I've tweaked it just a bit and committed it in
the patches dir in CVS.

Q: was there a reason you were waiting to reset the keep_partial flag
until server_options()?  I thought it would be better to reset it (when
inplace was specified) in parse_arguments().

I haven't tried to test it or examine it in any great detail yet.
