I agree that this opens up a whole slew of problems for the patent
system. Another one is that this could overwhelm the patent system with
the volume that will need to be processed.

I think the problem is with the patent system, not the ability to
actually invent new and useful things more quickly and cheaply than
ever before. That alone has to be a major plus.

All this is pointing out is that the patent system is not fit for
purpose.

Even if the AI cannot be the author there is still a patentable
invention, so many of these arguments are a bit beside the point.
