Now that you know the hardware is working, you can continue the journey to find some way to access the hardware from Linux.

One suggestion would be to use Virt-Manager and KVM to create a virtual DOS PC, install your software in the virtual DOS PC, redirect the serial port, and see if that works?

All a bit complicated, but if you were really keen, you might.
