The AEC's trade-secret claim for the senate counting algorithm doesn't 
hold up to scrutiny, I think.

The way the senate votes are to be counted is laid down in the electoral 
act. The program is merely an implementation of that.

You could say that the particular coding approach might be particularly 
innovative, but that's just pushing the edges of silly.
The voting mechanism as it is means that it's a fairly straightforward 
iterative process. No magic, just number-crunching.
