To reinforce Neil's point. We've seen this before.

In 1996 when John Howard was elected, there were no I.T. new contracts
signed from when Keating called the election and the Govt. went into
'caretaker mode' and until the end of 1997.

[And as a bonus, John Fahey was by then outsourcing as much Govt I.T. as
they could. It raised capital 'to pay down the debt'.]

I went to work in Sydney for a year.
It took me around 6 months to work out 'no jobs here' for myself...

On the plus side, the price of Real Estate fell during that Howard era
"razor gang" and the massive 'downsizing' and asset sell-off that
followed. Canberra currently has the strongest housing market in
Australia. That will change after May with the next 'surplus we had to
have' budget.
