Scratch that ^^ you've already answered the question (sorry)

On closer reading your problem is *not* a proxy - it's a missing install
(udeb) file/version conflict OR firmware issue.

Look for the name of the file in conflict/failing to download. If this
is a machine you've installed to before (Squeeze) then it's probably not
firmware issues...

Try the expert install (non-gui) - just arrow down to "Help" at the
start screen in the installer and hit "Enter" - use the Function keys 1
- 10 for options. At a minimum type "expert" (without the "") and hit
"Enter".

If that fails try another version of the installer (netinstall image).
