CLUG Programmers' Special Interest Group Meeting - 13th October 2011
	====================================================================

Date: 13th October 2011 (Second Thursday of the month)

Time: 19:00 - 21:00 (or when it finishes)

Speaker:	Bob Edwards

Abstract:	In a brazen retro move, Bob will present a discussion on
his XBee daemon to support Home Automation (HA), written
		in C...

		XBees (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBee) are low-cost
IEEE802.15.4 wireless modules that are normally used to
replace wired asynchronous serial links. However, the
XBee module is also capable of most of the functions
typically required for HA without needing a local micro.

To co-ordinate a Personal Area Network (PAN) of XBees in
a multi-drop configuration, a small daemon is required.
Bob will discuss XBee's, the API mode and some of the
standard C/POSIXy things in his daemon: select(),
socket(), hand-crafted Finite State Machines (FSM) etc.

Venue: Room N101
Computer Science and Information Technology Building
		North Road
		The Australian National University

See http://clug.org.au/ for more directions and a map

Food/drink:	Pizza and soft drink/juice. Come hungry, and bring
about $6 to cover the cost of your share if you
		want some.
