I didn't see the presentation, but +1 for Clonezilla.

I've used it for re-imaging Windows boxes that need frequent rebuilds, where 
the clonezilla process is an order of magnitude faster than using the "rebuild 
to factory default" disks.

I haven't tried the "parallel install over network" option, but that looks 
like it could be useful in your case, and in my near future.
