Correct. He does not believe in "open source," he believes in "free
(libre) software."

In a conversation with him a few weeks ago I accidentally referred to
a project as "closed source". He cut me off, replying:

"Using the term "closed source" supports the open source philosophy and
weakens the free software movement.  If you want to help us, please change
this habit, and say "proprietary" or "non-free" rather than "open source"."

So yes, he is all about the "free" bit.
