[clug] blue Telstra wireless modem - the saga continues and concludes

some time back I acquired a blue telstra 21 modem (ID 1199:68a3 Sierra
Wireless, Inc. Qualcomm USB 306) to replace my trusty older orange one
(ID 16d8:6280 CMOTECH Co., Ltd. CMOTECH CDMA Technologies modem -
Maxon USB3-8521) and could not get it to work under any Ubuntu linux
up to and including 9.10, in spite of all sorts of assistance from
CLUG (thanks Chris).

I can now report that it 'just works' (tm) on the EeePC under Ubuntu
10.04; it now recognizes the hardware *and* communicates with it.

speedtest suggests the download speeds are 3-4 times as fast, more
with the antenna connected. it gets quite a bit hotter so I suspect it
is drawing significantly more power.

the irony is that iPhone tethering also 'just works' (tm) so I will
probably end up not using it.

thought you might like to know of another linux triumph; if not, I
apologize... :)

jim
