I'm not sure I understand what's meant by
> timestamps on the camera do not show correctly
but, if the exif data is uncorrupted, try using Jhead to rename the files
eg. (in the directory containing all the jpegs) "jhead -n%Y%m%d-%H%M%S 
*.jpg"
