I've not seen a digital camera with more than half a second of lag between pressing the button and capturing the image since I bought my Nikon CoolPix 995 waaay back in … 2002?

I'll agree with you on the quality of lenses in general. I've found that Nikon and Canon have the best compound lenses, the Panasonic TZ10 is right up there with the Canon IXUS 300 HS on my list of cameras to decide between for my trip to Europe next year.  I'm after a P&S, since I have no interest in lugging around an SLR with a bunch of lenses (I'm there to have a holiday, not take professional photographs for the postcard/tourism poster industry).
