As I think someone else mentioned, its more a case of the ABC
supporting a method of communication that people they want to
reach *already* use, than wanting to endorse a foreign company. And
whilst there might be a warm fuzzy feeling from having an Australian
based twitter service, most people using Twitter don't want just an
Australian based service so are going to connect to something like
Twitter anyway.

Lots of arguments for interoperability between microblogging services
of course....
