Canberra Girl Geek Dinners will be holding their third event on 14
October, 2009. They are very
pleased to be able to welcome Senator Kate Lundy to speak about her
unique experiences working in
the building industry, and how those same challenges are being met in
the technology industry today.
This is also the very first Canberra Girl Geek Dinner to be sponsored
by Google Australia.

Senator Kate Lundy is a great advocate of gender equality and women's
issues. She is also a vocal
supporter of innovative and responsive government 2.0 projects, and
nation­wide technological
advances, such as the national broadband network.

Google Australia has been a regular sponsor of the Sydney Girl Geek
Dinners, and is now extending
that support to the Canberra Girl Geek Dinners.

Girl Geek Dinners are a reasonably new introduction to the Canberra
social scene. The concept began
in London four years ago and has been gathering momentum around the
world ever since. Girl Geek
dinners are now held in 44 different locations around the world, in
countries as diverse as Belgium, the
Netherlands, Iceland, Canada, Macedonia, and Japan. The aim of the
dinners is to provide a relaxed
and welcoming event for women involved and interested in the tech
community. They provide a rare
opportunity for women to network with others in the technical
community, and learn and speak about
the issues relevant to them. There are no rigorous criteria for
membership, other than an interest in
geeky pursuits. Male attendees are also welcome, at the invitation of
a 'girl geek'.
