I have several machines and a few virtual machines. They all have
different software installed and different roles and use cases.

I can tell you the worst that can happen is that something on my wife's
machine stops working in some way that doesn't affect my laptop. That's
worse than stuff at work being broken, I can leave work at the end of
the day.

That being said, I don't reinstall machines when new Debian releases
come out. I run sid on everything, including the wife's machine, and I
update often.
