As a  web dev - consider EasyPHP (Windows only) - combined with Eclipse it
is a frighteningly good combo.
For more hardcore stuff I've always liked Debian but the lack of Firefox is
a real hand brake if you intend to develop and test on the same box.
Otherwise the options really are open.
