Particularly in Australia, its very hard to get a netbook that ships 
with Linux now, so you are unlikely to avoid paying for Windows unless 
you import - which of course has its own set of problems.

Many of the systems are available in linux versions overseas, and so the 
hardware is generally well supported. The eeePC are certainly good in 
this regard, though there's many others brands with quite similar internals.
