Yes, I believe that we should be an open list.  There is no compelling evidence
that been subscriber only will reduce SPAM /unless/ you also add damin approval
for subscription which only increase the work on the list admin[1].  Setting
"moderation required for non-subscribers" similarly doesn't help.  Making it
harder for people new to linux to connect with the local community is coutner
productive.
