It took about an hour for the 'recovery' disks to boot and recreate the
'hidden' partition. It's something like BART-PE and an NTFS.

Then it took near 2.5 hours to install. Many, many reboots to complete.
Of course it silently reformats the hard-disk to Just One Big Partition
(modulo the 'hidden' partition).

As for 'what software comes standard with Vista?' - I *think* there is a
trial of MS-Office. I just haven't looked. And of course you've got
Windows Media Player and IE 7 (?) - with *tabs*!
