There are two parts to this.
The first part is that there is an animation extension to SVG (currently
unsupported by mozilla/firefox but support is planned) that would allow
you to define animation for elements using some XML :)
The second part is that you can use Javascript to do everything and
anything with SVG, Javascript having well documented DOM support, and
SVG being XML.  Of course, there are no threads, but I don't believe
Flash has them either.
