Yes it runs on AC with and without the battery.  In both cases it
gives a BIOS warning at powerup with words to the effect that an
incompatible AC adapter is attached (don't have it here with me atm
for exact wording).  The fact that it occurs without the battery has
me looking away from it being the issue.

That'd be great.  I'm sure I won't be the only one learning something
from that.  I'll make sure I'm well backed up.  BTW, I usually don't
get there until about 8pm (and will wait until the talks finish anyway
of course).
