Paul

'ADSL' is an open standard (see ANSI/ITU references at http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADSL#ADSL_standards); the Marconi-supplied VDSL
in the TransACT network is proprietary. I believe VDSL was more
recently ratified as a standard but don't think that the Marconi gear
is compatible.

The Marconi gear that TransACT have uses a Lucent chipset (52 Mbit/s
down 1 Mbit/s up). There is (was?) one Broadcom chipset modem and
line card in the network at one point that offered 13 Mbit/s
symmetrical.

Cheers,
Andrew

Pardon my ignorance, but how is a VDSL modem different from a standard
ADSL modem. Surely you're still just talking about a 8000/1000
connection to the CPE, which AFAIK is possible even with an old ADSL 1
modem.
