Michael,

In my experience most of these timeouts are usually to do with dns.
Check that /etc/resolv.conf points at a valid dns server because ssh
will try to reverse resolve your ip which might take a while to time
out. Also check that your ip does have an authoritative reverse dns
server assigned.
