I had (have) a Toshiba 490CDT with S3 ViRGE video.  I worked with the
driver author, and we got maybe 80% of the way there to a working
s3virge driver, when eventually the author got other projects to take
priority.

I just used the vesa driver, and waited for my new laptop.
