[clug] Smbpasswd incompatibility

I can run smbpasswd -r (remote) between my RedHat hosts running samba 2.2

I can run it between my SUSE hosts running samba 3.0.9.

I can run it from my rh7.3 host running samba 3.0.1 to both of the above
categories.

But when trying to run it from my SUSE samba 3.0.9 hosts to my RH samba 2.2
hosts and vice versa I get the message "wrong password".  The logs say:
 [2005/02/15 21:28:48, 0] smbd/chgpasswd.c:check_oem_password(817)
  check_oem_password: incorrect password length (1450216063).

Does anyone know why this might be happening?  All the above was simply
information: Specifically all I want to do is run it from the SUSE samba
3.0.9 host to the RH samba 2.2 host.
