[clug] MicroTux

Hi all,

well it took me a while to get around to it, but here is the MicroTux I
promised.

Starting with the image on the below mentioned site (in PNG form),
128x128, I first created a bi-level outline that looked about right to
my eyes.

Then I used the ANU Focused Ion Beam and my custom lithography software
(running on GNU/Linux of course) to raster the bi-level image onto a
film of AMTIR-1 chalcogenide glass, which is the material I stare at
most days. Each pixel is 50 nm. For reference, parts of his feet are one
pixel wide. The ion beam has milled away a shallow Tux-shaped trench,
maybe 200 nm deep. It took 60 seconds.

I'll do a more decent page about it later if people are interested, and
find a Slashdot hardened server to put it on :) But here is a low-res
JPEG to prove I did it!

Perhaps I'll offer to sign Linus's CPU if he comes to Canberra for the
conference. Larry Ewing can have one too (he drew Tux).

Have fun,
Darren
