I think this is the only way it will work.  Basically you end up with an
AP working in place of a wireless NIC.  The cat5 comes out of the AP
into the wired device.

This, I'm fairly sure won't work.  The reason for this is that when you
setup WDS, you have 1 master, and your other AP(s) become repeaters, so
you can't use the ethernet port on the repeater to another wired device.

Client Mode is the one you are after I think.
