Also check that a fan hasn't silently failed on you - both processor and
power supply. The symptoms suggest probably not a processor fan, but I've been caught
with this sort of thing before with a power supply overheating. Power supplies overheating can do some wierd things.

Check that the power supply air intakes are not obstructed by dust too.
