to clarify: the stable debian distribution, woody, has in it python2.2,
which can be installed alongside 2.1. Not necessary to use testing or
unstable debs.
I have Python 2.1.3 and Python 2.2.1 both installed from the normal
woody archive.
If i say 'python' i get 2.1. if i want 2.2 I have to say 'python2.2'.

aye. testing good. stable can get quite behind, eg Apache towards the
end of potato didn't support the NameVirtualHost * directive, and was
regarded on apache lists as 'antique'.
