G'Day,

I was wondering if there was someone on the list that either had one of
these plans or could help me sort out mine. I have contacted the Actew
support on numerous occasions but uttering the dreaded word "Linux" puts
them into a spin and questions about LCP etc. get this deathly silence. My
problem is as follows. My modem "Modem Research Companion 56K AUSTEL:
A95/25F/0522" will not connect to the ISP (Actew). At first I thought it was
a LCP issue so I changed my options file to have the following:

asyncmap 0
auth
crtscts
lock
hide-password
modem
passive
silent
-all
noip
proxyarp
noipx

with option file

# This optionfile was generated by pppconfig 2.0.10.
#
#
hide-password
noauth
connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -f /etc/chatscripts/Actew"
debug
/dev/ttyS0
115200
defaultroute
noipdefault
user 'myusername at actewagl.net.au' <-- Note the weird username ie.
myusername is replaced with my real username, but the login is actually an
e-mail address
remotename Actew

ipparam Actew

and chat script

# This chatfile was generated by pppconfig 2.0.10.
# Please do not delete any of the comments. Pppconfig needs them.
#
# ispauth PAP
# abortstring
ABORT BUSY ABORT 'NO CARRIER' ABORT VOICE ABORT 'NO DIALTONE' ABORT 'NO DIAL
TON
E' ABORT 'NO ANSWER' ABORT DELAYED
# modeminit
'' ATZ
# ispnumber
OK-AT-OK ATDT0198333134
# ispconnect
CONNECT \d\c
# prelogin

# ispname
# isppassword
# postlogin

# end of pppconfig stuff

If I look at the debug output in syslog the modem gets a HANGUP signal and
does not connect. Now I can connect using the same hardware to a Banksia
modem on another Linux system so I do know that PPP works. However there is
no go with Actew. I have even tried reducing the connection speed but also
to no avail. So can anyone provide any suggestions, help, pointers etc? I
will do any debugging suggested.

TIA
