My take on this is that they want to be able to discuss things which might
not yet be ready for prime time, whilst being able to consult with the
LUGs -- for example, many sponsorship agreements have confidentiality
clauses over the amount of money paid etc, which might need to be
discussed with LUGs.

I would, of course, feel bound to inform CLUG of any relevant
developments. CLUG is also free at any point to appoint new / other
representatives.
