mbox to maildir conversion

fire up balsa
"open" your current mbox
create a new mailbox in maildir format
(do both the above by right clicking in the left hand pane)
select your mbox
choose the option "view->flat index"
select all mails
drag'n'drop to your maildir folder
go to work
come back..yay!  maildirs

balsa is the mutt code with a pretty front end.
