I've had good success with "looks like your firewall corrupted the document" 
(hell, I couldn't read it) and "try sending me a PDF, they're usually smaller 
anyway".

Basic documents are often OK in KWord, but the DOC format is really sucky - 
you are basically seeing the data structures from memory linearised onto the 
disk. Given how much memory corruption you get in Windows, its amazing that 
it works at all.

I got a copy of Codeweaver's Crossover office (aka wine), and am going to try 
running word on that.
