Watch out for the Flash intro page.  Why are people starting to do that 
crap?  That's like making your customers sit through a live performance 
of "Hamlet" before you'll let them buy the book.

Well... as far as keeping a finger on the pulse, I guess an IRC channel 
would be just as good.  But you can't have an IRC channel on as 
background noise while you do other stuff.  You can have the TV on as 
background noise.
