APT and friends make updating packages as easy as
"apt-get update && apt-get upgrade"

Upgrading distributions (eg. from potato to woody) is a bit harder:
"apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade"

Debian Policy means packages play nicely together. No RedHat contrib
dependency hell.

16 billion packages means nearly anything you want is already packaged.
No RedHat contrib dependency hell.

If it's not already packaged, you can package it and ask for someone to
sponsor your uploads and/or join Debian and upload yourself.
