[linux-nisplus Digest, Vol 12, Issue 2]

There have been some strange patches that sun has released since about
June that may be adding to your problems.

Lets take it from the beginning. Your "root" account must be an
administrative principal...that means it must be listed when you do
a niscat -o admin (or nested therein)
Next this root account must be authenticated: do a keylogin, enter the
root password and make sure you get the promtp back without any other
messages.

Next, check /etc/nsswitch.conf for: files nisplus and none of the
[....return....] stuff. Besure that the user in question is not in the
local password file, and if so that the encrypted key in /etc/shadow
is disabled, like *NP* or *LK*. You can use LOCKED to fack out the newly
added pam stuff.

And lastly, use the passwd -r nisplus <username>.

If still having trouble, use Solstice with the nisplus patch. Iff you
don't know what I mean by this, or not familiar with the patch, please
write again, and I will deluge you with more.

Take a deep breath, NISplus is your friend.
