No idea to configure client...

Hello, 
I'm configuring a NIS Server.The clients ( mandrake 9.0 or 9.1 ) can
login (password on NIS server). 
The "problem" is the login if the network is down, or if the client
computer is a laptop and is not connected to the network.
Is there a conflict if I create a user on local machine with the same
name (and the same id) as the user on the NIS server?
